Corten A (also known as ASTM A242 / A588 Grade A) is a high-performance atmospheric corrosion-resistant weathering steel alloy. It is a low-alloy structural steel developed with the addition of copper, chromium, nickel and phosphorus elements, featuring self-protective anti-corrosion properties without painting treatment.

FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between Corten A and ordinary carbon steel?
Corten A is a low-alloy weathering steel with trace copper, chromium and nickel elements added. Its atmospheric corrosion resistance is 5-8 times that of ordinary carbon steel. It can be used without paint, while ordinary carbon steel is prone to severe rust and damage in outdoor environments and requires regular anti-corrosion painting maintenance.
Q2: Does Corten A steel need anti-rust painting?
No painting is required for conventional outdoor atmospheric environments. Corten A can form a stable protective rust layer spontaneously to block air and moisture. For extreme harsh environments (long-term salt spray, strong acid and alkali corrosion), simple protective treatment is recommended to further extend service life.
Q3: How long is the service life of Corten A steel?
In standard atmospheric urban environments, the service life can reach 60-80 years without manual maintenance. In coastal and humid environments, the service life is 30-50 years, which is far longer than ordinary carbon steel.
Q4: Is Corten A steel easy to process and weld?
Yes. Corten A has excellent weldability, cutting, bending and stamping performance, consistent with the processing technology of ordinary structural steel. It does not require special welding materials and processes, convenient for on-site construction and secondary processing.
Q5: Will the rust of Corten A steel contaminate the surrounding environment?
In the initial oxidation stage, slight rust water precipitation may occur. After 3-6 months of natural exposure, the surface will form a dense stable oxide layer, no more rust water overflow, no pollution to the surrounding environment, safe and environmentally friendly.
Q6: Can you provide customized size and surface treatment?
Yes. We support customized thickness, width, length cutting, slitting and leveling services. Optional surface treatments: pickling, oiling, blasting, pre-rusting treatment to meet different engineering and design requirements.
Q7: What is your delivery time and packaging standard?
Conventional in-stock specifications can be delivered within 3-7 working days. Customized sizes take 7-15 working days. All products adopt seaworthy export packaging, suitable for long-distance sea and land transportation to avoid damage and moisture.
