| Property | Minimum Value | Test Standard Reference |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile Strength | 415 MPa | ASTM A335/A335M |
| Yield Strength (0.2% Offset) | 205 MPa | ASTM A335/A335M |
| Elongation (in 50 mm) | 22% (for wall thickness > 10 mm) / 30% (for wall thickness ≤ 10 mm) | ASTM A370 |
| Hardness | ≤ 163 HB | ASTM E18 |
Product Characteristics
1.High-Temperature Performance: Designed for continuous service up to 593°C (1100°F); exhibits excellent creep resistance and oxidation stability due to Cr-Mo synergistic effect. Chromium forms a protective Cr₂O₃ scale, reducing oxidation rate to <0.1 mm/year at 538°C.
2.Weldability: Suitable for fusion welding using E8018-B2 electrodes. Preheat of 250–300°C and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) at 675–715°C are required to prevent embrittlement and maintain joint integrity.
3.Formability: Capable of bending, flanging, and cold working without cracking when proper procedures are followed.
4.Microstructure: Ferritic-pearlitic structure achieved through controlled thermal processing; grain size typically ASTM 5 or finer.
5.Corrosion Resistance: Superior resistance to sulfidation and hydrogen attack compared to carbon steels; Mo enhances resistance to sour environments.
6.Application Temperature Range: -29°C to 593°C; suitable for steam lines, boiler tubes, heat exchangers, and refinery piping.
Manufacturing & Inspection Requirements
1.Process: Seamless production via hot rolling or cold drawing(ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Tube).
2.Heat Treatment: Mandatory normalization (900–950°C) followed by tempering (650–750°C).
3.Testing:
Hydrostatic pressure test (mandatory per ASTM A335).
Non-destructive examination (NDE) - either ultrasonic or eddy current per ASTM E213 or E309.
Dimensional tolerances and surface finish per ASTM A335M.
Applications
ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Tube:
Power generation: Main steam lines in coal-fired and nuclear plants.
Petrochemical: Catalytic reformers, hydrocrackers, and high-pressure reactor feed lines.
Oil & gas: High-temperature pipeline systems in refineries and offshore platforms.
Industrial boilers: Superheater and reheater tubes.
Long-Term Service Considerations
1.Spheroidization of pearlite is the primary degradation mechanism above 500°C over extended periods (>50,000 hours), leading to reduced creep strength and ductility.
2.Regular non-destructive inspection and hardness mapping are recommended for in-service monitoring.
3.Decarburization at surface layers can induce abnormal grain growth and cracking under hydrostatic pressure - critical during manufacturing and welding.
