A.For each reduction of 0.01%carbon below 0.30%,an increase of 0.05 %manganese above 1.06%would be permited to a maximum of 1.35%manganese.
B. Where an ellipsis(...)appears in this table, there is no requirement and analysis for the element need not to be determined or reported.
C.By agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser, the limit for columbium may be increased up to 0.05%on heat analysis and 0.06% on product analysis.
Property ASTM A333 Grade 6 Requirement

Wall thickness tolerance of steel pipe:

Any point shall not be less than 12.5% of the nominal wall thickness. If the minimum wall thickness is ordered, no point shall be less than the required wall thickness.

Low-Temperature Impact Toughness (The Critical Feature)

This is the most important property of ASTM A333 GR.6.

Test Temperature: The Charpy V-Notch (CVN) impact test is conducted at -45°C (-50°F)

Requirement: The material must absorb a minimum average energy of 18 J (or 13 J according to some supplier data, but the standard aims for toughness to prevent failure) at this temperature -4-9. This ensures the pipe will not crack easily in cold environments.

Applications

Due to its low-temperature toughness, this grade is widely used in critical industries

1. Oil & Gas: For transmission lines in arctic regions or processing plants.

2.Petrochemical & Refineries: In cryogenic services and for handling liquefied gases (like ethylene, ammonia, urea).

3.Power Plants: For boiler systems and external piping in cold climates.

4.Chemical Processing: In equipment that operates at sub-zero temperatures

Tips

Foreign Trade Tips

Differentiate from A106: ASTM A106 GR.B is for high-temperature applications, ASTM A333 GR.6 is the dedicated choice for low-temperature environments (below -45°C) where impact resistance is required

Key Document Check: Always remind your supplier that the Mill Certificate must clearly show the Charpy Impact Test results at -45°C. Without this, the material cannot be certified as A333 GR.6.
