What is ASTM A106 GR.B?
ASTM A106 Grade B is the standard specification for seamless carbon steel pipe designed for high-temperature service . It is the most widely used material in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and power generation industries for process piping and boiler systems.

Dimensions and Sizes
Size Range: Typically available from NPS 1/8″ up to NPS 48″ (Nominal Pipe Size). However, common seamless production limits often range from 1/4″ to 26″ .
Wall Thickness: Defined by "Schedule" (Sch). Common schedules include Sch 40, Sch 80, Sch 160, up to XXH (Double Extra Heavy) .
Lengths: Usually 6 meters (20 feet) or 12 meters (40 feet) , or custom-cut as per order.
End Finishing
-Plain End (PE): Common for welding.
-Beveled End (BE): Standard for butt-welding connections. Usually, ends are beveled at an angle of 30-35 degrees .
-Threaded and Coupled (T&C): Available for smaller sizes if requested.

Manufacturing Process & Heat Treatment
Process: The pipe is manufactured by hot-finishing or cold-drawing . It is a "seamless" pipe, meaning it is made from a solid round steel billet that is heated and pierced to create a hollow tube without any welding seam.
Condition: Hot-finished pipe is normally supplied without heat treatment. Cold-drawn pipe usually requires heat treatment (normalizing or stress relieving) after cold finishing.
Comparison with Other Common Standards
Vs. ASTM A53 GR.B: A53 can be either seamless or welded (ERW), while A106 is strictly seamless. A106 is specifically intended for high-temperature service .
Vs. Chinese Standard 20#: A106 GR.B is often compared to the Chinese material 20# steel in terms of performance, though the chemical ranges differ slightly
