Standard & Scope

ASTM A672 covers electric-fusion-welded (EFW) steel pipe for moderate-temperature, high-pressure applications, such as power plant feedwater, boiler circulation, steam lines, refineries, and long-distance gas transmission.
The standard applies to pipe ≥ 1800mm outer diameter, with wall thickness up to 2 inches (50 mm), manufactured by LSAW from pressure-vessel quality plate.

NDT & Pressure Test (Second Digit)

Second digit = 2 : 100% weld radiography + hydrostatic test

Second digit = 3 : Hydrostatic test only (no radiography)

Second digit = 0 or 1 : Partial testing or as agreed

For the EU market, Class 22 / 32 (full radiography + hydrotest) is strongly recommended.

Key EU Compliance Points

PED 2014/68/EU: Typically falls under Category 2 or 3 (depending on DN × pressure), requiring EN 10204 Type 3.2 certificate and Notified Body involvement.

CE Marking: Conformity assessment can be completed prior to delivery.

Traceability: Each pipe is traceable by heat number, plate number, and weld seam ID.

Optional additional codes: Can meet NACE MR0175 / MR0103, AD 2000, EN 13480, etc.
